Prayer Meetings

Prayer is simply talking to God and asking him for things. It is a huge privilege for Christians because God listens to us and enjoys giving us what we ask for (except when God has something better in mind!). Our prayer meetings begin by looking at a few verses from the Bible. Then we hear about particular needs to talk to God about, whether they are in our church, national life or in the world as a whole. After that we pray, with people taking it in turns to talk out loud to God about the matters we have just heard about. At the end of their prayer, everyone else says 'Amen' when they agree with what has been prayed.

Everyone, even the newest Christian, is strongly encouraged to come along to these prayer meetings. No-one is forced to pray out loud; that is entirely voluntary. What matters is that we join together in prayer. The prayer meeting really is the most important meeting in the church calendar.

The main prayer meeting is on the second Monday of every month in the church hall from 7.45-9pm. There is also a weekly prayer meeting in the church hall from 9-10am for those who can make it.

Why Pray?

Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
Amen.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10 (NIV)

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NIV)

“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV)

“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:13-14 (NIV)

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)

The Earth From Space

Corporate prayer is integral to the life of Christ Church as we pray for the needs of the World and each other.
